Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for multiple crane lift
   • Access, interpret and apply crane operation documentation and procedures and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Carry out assembly and dismantling of boom/jib
   • Coordinate activities with others prior to commencement of, and during, the work activity
   • Carry out crane pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown procedures
   • Position, stabilise and level cranes prior to commencement of multiple lift
2. Carry out multiple crane lift
   • Obtain approval to carry out a multiple crane lift from the appropriate statutory authority
   • Plan multiple lift and obtain approval for lifting plan by an authorised person
   • Clarify and confirm multiple lift activities and responsibilities with the other crane operators
   • Carry out the multiple lift under the supervision of an authorised person
   • Prepare load for lift in accordance with crane limitations and rigging requirements
   • Confirm the work area is clear and hazards are removed or controlled prior to commencing multiple lift
   • Interpret signals in accordance with AS2550
   • Use crane controls and functions within manufacturer’s specifications to effectively lift and position loads
   • Act on or report, verbally or in writing, monitoring systems and alarms
   • Recognise and respond to hazardous and emergency situations

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of lifting using multiple cranes including:

planning and preparing for a multiple crane lift

preparing the load for lifting

accessing, interpreting and applying technical data

works effectively with others to undertake and complete lifting using multiple cranes that meet all of the required outcomes including:

prepare and plan for multiple lift and obtain approval from the authorised person

communicate, clarify and confirm multiple lift activities and responsibilities with other crane operators

maintaining all written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

demonstrates completion of carrying out lifting using multiple cranes that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

completing crane pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown procedures

carrying out a multiple crane lift, including:

obtaining approval by an authorised person

clarification and confirmation of multiple lift activities with other crane operators

calculating volume and weights

disposing of environmentally sensitive fluids and materials

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the following when carrying out lifting using multiple cranes:

accessing and applying the National Standard for High Risk Work

identifying crane equipment characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations

applying fault finding techniques

accessing, interpreting and applying technical information

identifying, interpreting and using hand and whistle signals
